Connecting a Mac running OS X Snow Leopard to a server running Microsoft Exchange 2007 is not quite as simple as it should be. We use Microsoft Small Business Server 2008, which comes with Exchange 2007. In our experience, the IMAP and SMTP protocols worked fine with any mail client we could find. But making a connection using the Exchange protocols built into the Mac Mail software required Exchange 2007 Service Pack 2 to be installed on our server.
Fortunately Microsoft has made this process fairly straightforward by producing an installation tool specifically to install the service pack.
We used this tool and the installation went well. Apparently there are lots of files to be upgraded, as the whole process took over 30 minutes to run on our server.
