I’ve recently been working on a project to make Lotus Notes email available to users of the Apple iPhone.
It turns out there’s quite a few commercial products that claim to do this, but most of the ones I’ve tried seem to not work properly. Perhaps this is because IBM recently announced support for direct connections from iPhone to Lotus Notes Domino server. IBM calls it iNotes, and it works via the iPhone’s built in Safari web browser.
I’ll be testing it over the next few days, but it seems this could be another nail in the coffin for Blackberry if for no other reason than price. It usually costs about $45 per month per user for Blackberry Enterprise Server, whereas iNotes is a completely free add-on toDomino servers running the IBM web access module.
